What to wear to your session....

This is always the part that stumps us all. Sometimes it's what keeps us from booking sessions. I'm here to tell you that it shouldn't. I will give you suggestions and some styling boards below; however, I want you to come to your session regardless of if you purchased your outfit at Walmart (which is my personal favorite lately) or Anthropologie. I want you to take the photos.

So, look below at the suggestions and then the style boards. But also know that coming in jeans and a white button up or some khakis and a blue jean button up... are just as classic. You can also look at some of my work within the website to see what some of my clients have wore that look timeless.

Happy outfit hunting! Remember to text me 606-401-3749 if you need help or just to show me what you found!

What to wear...

The goal of every session is simple: timeless images that feel like *you*. What you wear plays a big role in keeping your photos classic, natural, and forever beautiful.

Keep it simple, keep it timeless --- The best outfits are the ones that let *you* be the focus.

What photographs beautifully:

• Neutrals (cream, beige, tan, white, gray, black, soft browns)

• Earth tones (olive, rust, muted blues, dusty rose)

• Soft textures (knit, linen, denim, cotton)

• Jeans and button ups (always a yes)

• Simple dresses or solid color outfits

• Coordinated, not matching exactly

What to avoid

• Neon colors

• Busy patterns or large prints

• Visible logos or graphics

• Distracting text on clothing

Easy outfit ideas

For families:

• Mom in a neutral dress + dad in jeans and a button up

• Kids in soft solids + denim

• Coordinated earth tones across everyone

For milestones / children:

• Rompers, simple dresses, knit sets

• Overalls or denim with a solid top

• Barefoot or simple shoes when possible

For headshots / branding:

• Solid tops in neutral or muted tones

• Blouses, button ups, or fitted tees

• Layers like blazers or cardigans for texture

Budget-friendly options

You don’t have to spend a lot to look amazing on camera.

• Target (A New Day, Universal Thread)

• Old Navy (great basics and denim)

• Amazon (simple dresses, sets, and basics)

• H&M (neutral basics and modern staples)

Higher-end options

For a more elevated look or investment pieces:

• Madewell (denim and timeless basics)

• J.Crew (classic, clean styling)

• Anthropologie (soft textures and dresses)

• Free People (flowy, boho-inspired looks)

• Zara (modern neutral pieces) -- you sometimes can luck into these at TJMaxx, Marshalls & Ross just fyi!

A helpful studio note

If you ever purchase clothing for a session and don’t plan to wear it again, feel free to reach out. In some cases, I may purchase pieces from you or offer future session credit in exchange for items that fit my client closet or styling needs. I am working on building my client closet - so maybe most of my clients do not have to even look for their outfits before coming in. I had this before and I want to make it even better this time as the studio has a room that I can dedicate to just wardrobe!

Final note

If you’re unsure, jeans and a simple top always work beautifully. Keep it comfortable, keep it neutral, and let your connection be the main focus of the image.

These sessions are about real moments, not perfect outfits.

Style Guide Photos

Here are some ideas for you to help guide you as you choose outfits for your session. You can take a photo of this with your phone and use Google Photo search to help you find options similar to this online within your budget!

I hope this helps! Also know ... JEANS are good! Wear your jeans with a top if that's your vibe for the session -- colored jeans are fine, too. Light wash, dark wash, etc.

Happy hunting!
