A Little Sparkle + A Lot of Her
Pikeville High School Senior Session
Senior sessions should feel like the person in front of my camera, and this Pikeville High School senior session was exactly that. We started in the studio and then headed outdoors to two different locations around Pikeville, Kentucky, giving us a mix of clean, timeless portraits and more relaxed, natural images. Different locations, different outfits and different looks, but one thing stayed the same throughout the entire session: it all felt like her.
One of my favorite details from her session was the ring she wore, a piece that has been handed down through her family for generations. There was something so special about photographing something carrying that much history during a season that represents so much new. Pair that heirloom ring with a fancy new pair of shoes, a little sparkle, and her otherwise simple, down-to-earth style, and it was the perfect combination. Old and new. Dressy and simple. A little bit polished without losing who she really is.
That is exactly why I believe senior sessions are worth doing. Senior year is such a tiny space between two huge chapters of life. They're still the kid you've watched grow up, but they're also standing right on the edge of everything that's coming next. Senior portraits give us a chance to document more than what they looked like. I want to photograph their personality, the things they love, the pieces of their story they carry with them, and who they are right now.
My full senior sessions are intentionally designed to give us time to do that. With multiple outfits and locations, we aren't trying to squeeze an entire personality into a handful of poses. We have room to create variety, slow down, have fun and make photographs that feel natural. Bring the sentimental jewelry. Bring the fancy shoes you couldn't resist. Bring the favorite jeans, the letterman jacket, the boots, the instrument, the Bible, or whatever else feels like you. Those little details are often what make the photographs mean even more years from now.
Senior Sessions in Pikeville, Kentucky
I have room for approximately five more full senior sessions before my 2026 season ends, and my 2027 senior calendar is now booking.
As I restructure Kandi Zadel Photography, I'm becoming much more intentional about how many sessions I take each year. Beginning in 2027, I plan to open only 25 full senior session spots for the entire year. Once those 25 dates are reserved, my full senior calendar will close.
